Product Image size requirements guidelines amazon ebay

Product image size is the most important issue for selling your image in the largest market place.

But when you’re selling on so many channels, it can be difficult to remember how to optimize your product photos for each. That’s why we’ve put together this handy guide and chart to help you understand product photo requirements across various online marketplaces. Amazon

Maximum product photo file size: 10 MB
Product photo file type: .jpg preferred; .tif and .gif also accepted
Product photo image size: 500 px on one side minimum; 1000 px or larger recommended
Other requirements and guidelines: The MAIN image on your Amazon product pages must have a white background. Amazon also requires merchants to use sRGB or CMYK color mode, and at least 85% of the frame should be the product.

Amazon also has guidelines for product photo file names: They must contain the product identifier, followed by a period and the file extension. The examples they provide are B000123456.jpg and 0237425673485.tif.

eBay

Maximum product photo file size: 7 MB with photo uploader; 12 MB when uploading from a web address
Product photo file type: .jpg, .png, .tif, .bmp and .gif
Product photo image size: 500 px on one side minimum; 800–1600 px recommended
Other requirements and guidelines: eBay allows sellers to upload up to 12 product photos for each listing. The zoom/enlarge feature is automatically implemented on photos with high enough resolution (at least 800 px on the longest side, though they recommend at least 1600 px). JPEG photos should have a quality of 90 or higher on the 0–99 JPEG quality scale.
Product photos may not have any borders, text, artwork or logos.

Etsy

Maximum product photo file size: 20 MB
Product photo file type: .jpg, .gif and .png
Product photo image size: At least 1000 px square
Other requirements and guidelines: If you use photos that are at least 1000 px wide, Etsy will automatically enable to zoom feature. Etsy recommends sellers use consistent sizing in your product photos, as this creates a better user experience for shoppers.
Etsy allows you to upload up to ten product photos for a given product, and they recommend you use at least five. The first photo should be landscape or square, as Etsy uses this as the focal point for the image appears appropriately in cropped thumbnails. They also recommend you convert images to sRGB.

Google Shopping

Maximum product photo file size: 16 MB
Product photo file type: non-animated .gif, .jpg, .png, .bmp and .tif
Product photo image size: At least 100 px square for non-apparel; at least 250 px square for apparel
Other requirements and guidelines: Google Shopping prohibits product photos from having text, watermarks or borders. They allow product staging, but recommend these photos are not used for the primary photo. The product should take up 75%–90% of the image frame. You can use up to 11 product photos on Google Shopping.

Shopify

Maximum product photo file size: 20 MB
Product photo file type: .jpg is recommended
Product photo image size: 2048 px square recommended; 4472 px square max
Other requirements and guidelines: Shopify automatically creates different sizes of your product photos to use them in different scenarios across the site. Though your product photos can be different sizes, Shopify recommends using the same width to height ratio for all featured image files. This will make your images appear to be the same size throughout the site, while also allowing you to use different sizes. Shopify allows sellers to upload up to 250 images.

Magento
Maximum product photo file size: 5 MB
Product photo file type: .jpg and .png
Product photo image size: 1100 px square max
Other requirements and guidelines: Magento recommends sellers standardized image sizes to achieve the highest resolution. Magento allows one thumbnail and up to 15 additional product photos. Thumbnails should be 50 px square.

WooCommerce

Maximum product photo file size: not specified
Product photo file type: .jpg and .png
Product photo image size: 800 px square recommended
Other requirements and guidelines: Though WooCommerce recommends 800 px-square images, they also say bigger is better if your products are detailed. This will accommodate a better experience for shoppers who use the zoom functionality. Thumbnails are automatically created from your main product images.
Like Amazon, WooCommerce recommends the use of white background, especially on your main product photos.

BigCommerce

Maximum product photo file size: not specified
Product photo file type: .jpg, .gif and .png
Product photo image size: 1280 px square recommended
Other requirements and guidelines: BigCommerce also automatically resizes and creates thumbnail images from your main product photos. File names must only contain letters and numbers, no spaces or special characters. The product description is automatically pulled in to become the product photo’s image alt tag.

Facebook

Maximum product photo file size: not specified
Product photo file type: .jpg, .gif and .png
Product photo image size: 1024 px square or higher recommended
Other requirements and guidelines: Facebook is another channel that recommends the use of a white background on product photos. No text, offensive content, advertising or promotional material, watermarks or time-sensitive information may be conveyed on the product photos. The images must be the actual product itself, and not a graphical representation.
For U.S. Facebook Pages, Facebook will only display up to 1,000 products per collection, with ten products in the featured collection. Each product must have at least one associated photo.

Instagram

Maximum product photo file size: 30 MB
Product photo file type: .jpg and .png
Product photo image size: 1080 px square max
Other requirements and guidelines: Instagram is owned by Facebook and thus has the same requirements regarding the content and presentation of your product photos.
